Ben Harrison Book Launch & Signing Party! - Walk on White - May 15, 2014 - Key West, FL

In the 1970s, Ben and Helen Harrison drove from San Francisco to San José, Costa Rica, to build a 38 foot sailboat. The drive was just the beginning of an incredible, often humorous, adventure that brought them to Key West.

Join us for an evening of celebration! Ben will read selections from his new book, show off treasures featured in the story, and regale us all with tales of adventure!

Get your copy today and bring it to be signed, or purchase one at the party!

Jimmy Wray // Louie Wray - April 17, 2014 - Walk on White - Key West, FL

____________________________Time Lapse

The title of this show is, in part, a reference to the photography of Jimmy Wray’s son, Louie Wray, who will join in for this two artist show. It’s also about the person who looks back at us in the mirror.

Do those sheets of glass and silver hold our memories like a cosmic photograph? For Jimmy, to add a touch of enchantment to the strange visual phenomenon we call a mirror, is to encourage us to see ourselves.

In stark contrast, Louie calls us to relinquish thoughts of our self, and to expand our imaginative pallets into the natural unknown.

Jimmy Wray assembles antique architectural elements recovered from old houses in Key West into frames for beveled mirrors, providing a truly unique stage to see oneself.

"Mirrors are an incredibly underrated visual phenomenon, taken for granted through overuse! My mirrors are an attempt to bring the viewer back, for a second look, to stir some wonder and at the same time make them a part of the piece, the exact picture always changing, time capsules
about 'you' and about Key West." - Jimmy Wray

Louie Wray began exploring his passion for photography eight years ago, at age 15. His love for the art form arose from an era surrounded by imagery on the internet, and by greats like Clyde Butcher, and Ansel Adams. Natural patterns and phenomena inspire the color and composition throughout Louie’s work.

“I love cultivating relationships with the curves of a tree trunk or the polyps in a colony of coral. I first dropped my lens below the water two years ago and embarking into the underwater realm has been my greatest artistic decision since first picking up the camera in 2006."
- Louie Wray

Charles Pebworth - Walk on White - February 20, 2014 - Key West, FL

DSCN1887.JPG

A great deal of personal and poetic experiences are expressed in Charles Pebworth's work. His pieces capture us with their insight, mystery, and imagination, inviting us to delight and wonder again and again.

Best known for his metal relief sculptures, Pebworth incorporates "refined" found objects from nature into his work. His materials come from all over the world, including remote locations in Peru and Afghanistan.

Created over a period of 60 years, the sheer magnitude of his body of work speaks to a life dedicated to creating art and to the creative process. Recurring themes in his work include the heart, the female form, angels, and a diversity of familiar, yet playful geometric shapes.

In the 60s he worked primarily in wood, with some metal beginning to appear. During the 70s he was known for his huge architectural commissions, characterized by the towering Woodlands, Texas entrance piece, "The Family," and the massive metal relief wall in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Houston.

In the late 80s and 90s, Pebworth created a series of totems, pyramids, and shrines. In recent years, he has focused on both watercolors and fabricated metals, continuing to create new works to add to his legacy.

Over the course of his career, Pebworth has created a remarkable range of artwork. The diversity of his style is also astonishing, having produced sculptures, reliefs, drawings, and paintings.

He is truly an accomplised artists in all media, and we are proud to be featuring him for our February Walk on White.

Bonnie Burkee // Cindy Kulp - January 16, 2014 - Walk on White - Key West, FL

Not only is this Walk On White the first one of 2014, but it also kicks off Harrison Gallery’s 28th year bringing fine art to our Key West community!

For this special event, we are pleased to feature new pieces from Cindy Kulp and Bonnie Burkee. Both artists were inspired by friends of the feathered variety, so beautiful birds will be showcased in each of their latest works.

We are excited to have new work from avian painting master, Cindy Kulp.

Cindy has been breeding and raising exotic parrots for over twenty-two years. Derbyan Parrots are the subject of her latest, color-filled work. Her profound involvement with nature and animals is reflected in her work as an artist and in her activities as an environmentalist.

Her paintings demonstrate a level of detail and expression that rival even those of James Audubon.

We are also honored to welcome back to the island, printmaker, sculptor, and photographer, Bonnie Burkee.

She will be debuting two new pieces, Shopping on White Street, and Cock O’ The Keys—both of which she began during her residency last year at The Studios of Key West.

These new pieces bring delightfully curious scenes of Key West into her intricate, whimsical domain.

Harrison Gallery is proud to feature new works by Hays Blinckmann for the monthly gallery walk, and during our opening for the second annual ART! Key West!

Using the still life genre as inspiration, Hays has broken the picture plane into fragments, resulting in familiar patterns that are delicately manipulated into explosions on canvas.

She is creating chaos through striking lines and paint splatter, then simultaneously ordering it--finding the balance and beauty of it through a manifest of color.

This show will also mark the ten year anniversary, to the day, when Hays met her husband, Jan-Marten Blinckmann, during her first show at Harrison Gallery.

Coco Eriksen - Walk on White - March 21, 2013 - Key West, FL

Poor Little Rich Girl, 36" x 48", oil on canvas

This painting is a reflection of my subconscious, a transition between three worlds: Africa, Europe, and America. The jungle on the left, the garden in the middle, the buildings at the far end.

I grew up in Africa. My mother was French, my father Belgian. I married a Norwegian and lived in many countries before settling in America.

Who am I?

Comfortable everywhere, yet belonging nowhere.
I have no roots but feel as a universal spirit.

When I paint, I float between my worlds and create my own.
