MICHAEL BAUERMEISTER

Michael found his voice sculpting wood. Using traditional methods from his background as a furniture-builder, as well as new techniques he discovered, he carves vessels—some as large as a person—from a variety of local hardwoods. Michael has developed his own vocabulary of different textured surfaces, some painted, some with natural wood grain. He yields toward simple, organic shapes that evoke natural objects with a utilitarian soul.
